The Surgery is able to book ambulances for patients to attend hospital appointments. You must meet the basic criteria for this service before it will apply to you. Usually Ambulances will only take you to NHS hospitals in our area.
Please call the surgery – avoiding busy periods such as Monday mornings – and ask to make an ambulance booking, giving us as much notice as possible (up to 90 Days in advance). We will then try to arrange this on your behalf. Please be aware that the service is provided by North East Ambulance Service NHS Trust and we are not able to guarantee any provision.
It is important you do not arrange your hospital appointment to be after 2.00pm on any day, otherwise the ambulance service cannot be used. It you must have an ambulance to transport you to hospital you will have to rearrange your appointment time.
Note that there is no way for us to arrange return transport for any escorts who travel with you if you are admitted to hospital at the appointment.
For us to book the ambulance you will be asked some important questions by our Receptionist:
You will be provided with a Booking Number by our Receptionist which you should note down and keep as you will be asked for it in the event of a query or problem with the booking.
