Electronic Prescribing Service

Dated: 20-Jun-12

From mid-July Peaseway Medical Centre becomes only the second GP Practice in Co Durham and Darlington to start using this new service. As you might expect from its name the service will allow the transfer electronically of prescription items from our surgery to a "nominated" (by patients) pharmacy. Most pharmacies in Newton Aycliffe are expected to be able to accept electronic prescriptions.
For many years Peaseway has required patients to register with a local pharmacy who then collect green prescription paper slips from us and take them to their own premises where they are made up waiting for you to collect your items without patients having to make a journey to the surgery.

With EPS there is no need to have green prescription slips in most cases. Information is transferred electronically.

EPS will still require you to "nominate" or chose a Pharmacy  - even when you have perhaps used the same pharmacy for a long period of time. This is to ensure and confirm that you had a free choice in selecting your nominated pharmacy.

Patient Nomination Request Forms are available and are being distributed to patients now. Please leave the completed Nomination Request either at the surgery or at your chosen pharmacy.

There are 2 NHS videos available on You Tube which explain the new service and what it might mean for you.
